I have recently begun eating meat again after a two year stint as a vegetarian, and the burger here was everything I wanted it to be! It was done perfectly and the fries were delicious. Nothing beats a cold beer, a burger and fries!

Marge's is located a few blocks from my home, so I ducked in their after a weekend getaway to watch the 2nd period of the Wings/Blackhawks playoffs, as this is supposedly the hockey bar! No understatement as the moderate sized Monday night crowd were all glued to the TVs. I may have been the only person to notice the place has probably not been remodeled since they opened some 40 years ago. Nor have the smoke stained ceiling tiles been replaced, even though Michigan banned public smoking 3 years ago. Marges is the perfect place to grab a beer and enjoy typical bar food. Nothing more and nothing less. I wouldn't hestitate to return there with my sports loving friends, but would never bring a date there ( I have yet to date a Red Wings fan! ). The patty melt was fine, although the cook could use a beefier style of rye bread and the onion rings were tasty, batter dipped, not breadcrumbs, and home style I believe, not frozen.

Great perch sandwich and salad on the patio. Excellent service. A nice addition to Kercheval in the Park.

There are quite a few places in the Grosse Pointe area that seem to have been around FOREVER. Marge's is definitely one of them. It is basically a sports bar. They also serve food. Towards the back of the building, you will find a pool table and a dart board, but that's about it. The motif of the place definitely caters to Detroit's deep connection with hockey as there's a bench made of hockey sticks. There are pictures of old Red Wings and other star NHL players all over the place. The one thing you notice about many of the storied bars around Grosse Pointe is the ever-present smell of stale cigarette smoke. I imagine the recent ban approved by the Michigan Senate will make many east siders sad come May 2010. I know I can do without it, but I feel like the smell of millions of cigarettes inhaled over strong alcoholic drinks has a nostalgic quality that I will miss. Seriously, go to Marge's for lunch and you'll definitely see a couple Cheers-like types sitting at the bar with a mid-day beer. I am sorry, but there is something very Ernest Hemingway about that. Oh, the food... I would suggest sticking with fries, onion rings and chicken wings. Everything else is fairly greasy, even ground sausage on a pita. It's surly bar food though and there is definitely a time for it. Wait, their fish and chips are pretty solid, if I do recall. My biggest gripe though is Grosse Pointe bars do not seem to believe in drink specials. Marge's is no exception. From speaking to a bartender, they do not have a happy hour. That is a bummer, because I feel like such a place would be my favorite local dive. I guess I will just stick to Tap Room, it is closer anyway.

For a cozy bar environment with tasty food and a place to watch the game, I've gotta give Marge's five stars. Specials are always good. You can't go wrong with burgers or grilled chicken salad. Wings and onion rings are excellent. If you're a Hockey fan, you have to check out Marge's!

Chilled out dive bar atmosphere. Great bartenders. Can get packed during Red Wings games. Cheap food specials on Monday night.

A great atmosphere for hockey fans, but there was only one waiter so service was inadequate. Food was good, but overpriced for what it was.

Hands down the best bar food on the East side. Great burgers and sides -onion rings are like giant donuts- while their wings are huge and made simple. Draft beer is served in perhaps the "iciest" mug to be found. Good spot for watching sports ... especially hockey. Not just Wings, though, any hockey. Very friendly staff and generally a welcoming local crowd.

I love marges!!! Their chicken fingers are to die for. I eat here with my boyfriend once or even twice a week. Always friendly staff, and great service. Chicken ceaser salad is made on Fridays and it is delicious. My boyfriend always orders a burger & fries. They don't have a huge selection of beer or liquor , that's the ONLY downfall. Other than that, fantastic.

Marge's is a greasy dose of genuine blue collar atmosphere, served up in the sickly white corridors of Grosse Pointe. It won't win an awards for gourmet cooking or classy clientele, but then again, I wouldn't go if it did. The food beats expectations: try the beer-battered onion rings, Fish Fridays, or the burgers. The owners are super-friendly, the beers are cold, and the jukebox plays bluegrass. What else do you want?

LOVE MARGE'S! This was an awesome discovery a few years ago when I was in GP looking for a place to watch the Wings. Not knowing anything about the place my cousin and I walked in right as a goal was scored and an air horn and goal light started flashing throughout the place...it was quite a surprise but really fun. Overall...the food and the atmosphere have kept me driving across town to come here. Their Hat-Trick burger is GINORMOUS but super delish. The onion rings, as previously mentioned, are also out of this world...they kind of taste like donuts (which sounds weird...but they have that battered texture). I'm sure hoping the NHL gets this lock-out worked out so I can have an excuse to frequent Marge's more often. PS - great story....two years ago when the Wings were close to an elimination in the playoffs someone (owner/manager) brought out a huge basket of foil wrapped hot dogs and started tossing them to customers (and it was packed to the gills) shouting RALLY-DOGS!!! It was such a unique thing and really got the crowd excited. While it didn't help the Wings win....it made me love Marge's even more, if that is possible.

Stopped by here after work with my sister for a burger and beer. It did not disappoint! The bartender/server was very friendly and prompt. The burgers and fries were typical bar food, aka tasty. However my one gripe is that the fries were not salted. I get that some people don't do salt but it's like once the plate hits the table any salt you attempt to apply just bounces off. oh ps. the atmosphere is dive bar with an owner that loves hockey. It's interesting.

The burgers are fresh and tasty--particularly the big burger with ham, and if there's a sporting event going, Marge's has you covered with five flat screens. It's great for any sport, but extra special -- indeed, a must-do if you are a NHL fan--to watch a Wings game here in this mini-shrine to Hockeytown. Also try the grilled chicken salad.
